approx 1920 Vintage Sewing Machine

My husband found this sewing machine in an antique store and bought it for me over ten years ago.
I never had the time to sew till now.
I went to the Singer Web site looking for a serial number but could not find my number on the list.
I did find an authorized Singer Dealer to give me an estimate to fix this machine.
It does not start when I pug it in. I know I will need at least a new motor. They said most machines cost about $100 to refurbish. I'm going to need a new case also. The one that came with it smells like mildew. He said the cases that will fit this machine can cost from $30 to $50.

That is a lovely machine. From what I can tell this is a Model 66 Red Eye that was made into an electric sometime after the fact. I have two of these. Because it does not work, maybe you can make it into a hand crank (about 15 dollars and easy to do yourself). If you are new to sewing I'd use the 100 towards a machine that has a bit more function such as zig zag function. There are many vintage machines to fit the bill if that's important. That is not to say this machine is not good, though. I'd use this little pretty for special occasions like quilting.
